I bought myself a deskcycle as a belated birthday present to myself. I was hoping DH would buy it for me, but he has other ideas and I can't complain.
I have been looking at them for a while. It started as a search of things I can do at work. I keep hearing about how unhealthy sitting is and the sedentary lifestyle many of us lead. And I sit behind a desk all day. I do try to get up and walk around, but I needed to do more, aside from increasing my workouts (which I am working on!)
This is the official pic:
When I first set up in the kitchen (yes that is paint on the tile from DH painting, and he's still painting. sigh)
Set up under my desk
tracker on my desk
They said to start off at 30 minutes a day at level 1. this is week 2 I am doing this-yesterday was 40 mins at level 4. It's 40 minutes over the course of the day. Stop and start.
Level 4 seems to be where I'm at.
Its an adjustment, had to figure out how to set it up at my desk and am still working on that. Am also adjusting to pedaling and working at the same time. I'm doing it now, lol. It's still awkward.
It's virtually silent! My office-mate did not know I had it until I showed her a couple days later.
Am not expecting this to take place of exercise, just adding a little movement while I sit. Keep the circulation going. There will not be any huge calorie burns, they do have a calculator on there web site to figure it out.
40 minutes of pedaling=equals 153 calories for me yesterday.
Its goes by weight, height, time and speed.
Fitbit does not count as steps. I'm glad, I was hoping it would not.
I sent an email to Sparkpeople if it counted as fitness minutes (by they way-they answered quickly and were awesome) but they said it was up to me. If I think it will improve fitness then I should. That was the point, so for now I am going to count them That may change.
The pedaling time should build daily over time, and I will be able to up the tension. Someone else on spark has one, she is on level 8 and pedals all day. She loves it.
We'll see how it goes, hopefully a good tool for my journey to weight loss and health.
