Can you change your mindset

Sunday, October 25, 2015

Is it truly possible to Change your mindset? I have been trying too! I have been reading, talking, praying, meditating...and I seem to default back to my natural mindset! Which is a worrier on the pessimistic side. In Gretchen Rubin's book Happiness Project-her research showed that everyone has a range of happiness, some is genetic, some is brought on by circumstances, but there is a part you control. Has my happiness range been in the upper end of my range? I can't say. Right now I feel the answer is no, but I'm definitely towards the bottom of my range right now! I had a bit of an epiphany earlier. One of my main problems is, that no matter how good you are, how right you do things, how perfect you are, things can still go wrong! Bad things happen to good people! And wonderful things happen to bad people! Not that I'm trying to truly get philosophical. I'm just saying you can have the perfect diet and exercise routine and still get hit by a bus! You can be a great money manager and still get stolen from. I am trying to set my happiness range to high. My default eating and exercise to healthy. Everything to the better, so that when I get upset I don't run to a tv or movie marathon and junk. Also hoping to reset my financial default to saving and not spending. Not that I am drowning in debt, but I payed off all of my cc debt before I had my daughter, and I've managed to build some back up. A splurge or two here couple with some medical, car, and home stuff, has gotten it back to my uncomfortable range. Not Unmanageable, but I wish I didn't have any at all period. I have hope that I can, and I guess that is good enough for now!

I think a lot of changing our mindset is to quit comparing our journeys to others. It's so easy for me to beat myself up because things that I struggle at come so easy to other people. Thanks for posting this blog. It helped me to put some of my thoughts into a better perspective.

You absolutely can change your mindset. It might take awhile, but it can be done. Start with going an hour without saying anything negative. Good Luck :)
