The Cholesterol Crazies!

Wednesday, November 04, 2015

So, I need to watch my cholesterol.....I know exercise will help with the one kind of cholesterol, so I'm working on that. However, the whole cholesterol in foods really confuses me. I'm still researching it, but just thought I'd drop my thoughts here for anyone who may have some words of wisdom or avenues of research for me.

My doctor wants me to shoot for between 200-300 mg/day of cholesterol intake. Is that feasible? What should I eat for breakfast? I love having an omelet with a low fat piece of swiss cheese and a couple thin slices of ham lunchmeat. However, I usually make it with one full egg and two eggwhites. I thought that was okay...but then I can't seem to keep my cholesterol intake to between 200-300 mg/day.

I was told that anything from an animal (meat, dairy, eggs, etc.) has cholesterol. Is it better for me to eat veggies and fruits more so than anything else? (I'm sure that's a stupid question...and I try to eat a good amount of veggies every day).

If you're watching your cholesterol, how are you doing? Do you have any tricks of the trade? Do you have any concerns?

dietary cholesterol does not raise blood cholesterol. I have read much on this and cholesterol is used by the body to fight inflammation. I personally eat 1500 mg of cholesterol per day (more on some days) and my most recent total cholesterol was 137 with ldl of 89. Good luck.

I am also trying to lower my cholesterol. My dr told me to cut out all cheese and only drink skim milk. She also said to eat a serving of almonds everyday to raise my HDL which will help lower my LDL. & Never eat anything with more than 2g of sat fat
