More health related victories

Saturday, November 14, 2015

I am trying to bust my current plateau. I had been doing fairly well--but then we were on vacation without a scale for a week. I THOUGHT I was getting LOTS of exercise--we walked a lot, did weights, had 2 water aerobics classes--but I gained 4-5 pounds. I am getting them off again SLOWLY but I am supposed to list health related victories. So
--I still have excellent blood pressure--like 90/60 at 58 years old!
--I take NO medications at all--at 58 years old.
--My biggest physical complaint is the varicose veins that I am seeing on my left leg--no pain, just looks "old". (My sister has had surgery 2x for hers and she is younger so I am NOT complaining.)
--I can push for the whole water aerobics class and I can do most of the Les Mils Power Pump class -- not all yet but pretty good till we get to shoulders.

Guess that is a pretty good list--even if I can't get to goal weight (145--gives me a BMI of less than 25), I can stay pretty well around 155--up and down 2 pounds around that but the BMI is more than 25--not a lot but more than I want...

I wouldn't use the scale to decide if you "did well" - you made good choices and that matters more than any number on one tool! Water retention and muscle building both can change your weight without being "bad." I noticed that one of your pics is in the mountains - I come home heavier from all trips up to altitude, but I lose that weight fairly quickly once I'm back at home. So that might affect vacation weight too

Not all weight gain is from eating and not moving, some of that weight gain is from building muscle and we all know that muscle weighs so much mroe then fat does. I would think that will all your activity and weights, your building muscle which in turn burns calories, fat does not, so keep doing what you are doing but also remember to allow for weight to yo yo up and down .. that is only natural to have a 3 - 5 lbs difference from time to time ... emoticon emoticon

You're doing great! I'm at about 15 lbs away from normal BMI and I feel like it's getting more difficult. I think the last 10 or so is always the hardest. Hang in there! You can do it!!

Sound pretty similar to me. No meds varicose veins blood pressure good ( not like yours). I need to loose 15 more pounds but hit a wall at 11 pounds. BMI still in overweight, but will continue to push through this weight loss journey.
