We just arrived home from seeing The Nutcracker at the University Theatre in Madison. Our 8 year-old Grand-daughter, Elizabeth, has been taking ballet lessons for the past 3 years and was a Bon Bon in the Nutcracker. They have been rehearsing every Sunday afternoon since October and three times this past week at the Theatre itself. She was READY!!!!! We arrived at 1:30 for the 2 PM showing. We also knew 4 others in the show. Elizabeth's ballet teacher played the part of Clara's mother, her daughter was also a Bon Bon, her SIL played the part of a guest at the opening party and classmate of Elizabeth's was also a Bon Bon. There were also 4 professional ballet stars in the show and they were amazing. Elizabeth didn't appear until the second act. She came out under a very large skirt worn by the mother of the Bon Bons who was on stilts. Elizabeth said it was a bit scary under the skirt at first. I was so proud!!!!! She had stage make-up on and looked at least 15 instead of 8. She didn't miss a step and looked like she was having such a good time on stage. She spotted me right away as we were sitting in the second row from the front and smiled and gave me the secret wave that we had worked out ahead of time. When the show was over, we got to take pictures of her in her costume and also had pictures taken with her. Then she turned her costume in and we all went out for supper. It was a great afternoon and evening with many laughs. She will sleep tonight after 2 performances on Saturday and the final one today. Tomorrow night, her Ballet class will perform a few of their dances at the local Nursing Home. She is at such a wonderful age. I wish that it wouldn't go so fast.
