Merry Christmas! The day dawned and what to my wondering eyes did appear... a ray of sunshine! Yip, it wasn't raining! The DH and I had coffee and breakfast and then before I started with getting Christmas Dinner going I headed out for a 4 mile run. The ocean was roaring! We live about a mile from the ocean and it sounded like a freight train. As I write this, I am inside with the TV going and I can still hear the roar in the background. It is so interesting how sometimes the noise is so overpowering and other times you hear nothing.
My run was thoroughly pleasant. The traffic was very light and it was quite peaceful with no wind. Temperature was moderate in the low 50s so I only needed a light jacket. I also wore gloves and a headband because if your hand or ears are cold it is miserable.
After I got home, I took a quick shower and got myself ready. Seems like if I leave that for later I never get myself put together so did that first. Then started with preparing baked potatoes and the prime rib. I really love having 2 ovens when I am preparing holiday dinners. Put the Prime Rib in the lower oven and the potatoes in the upper leaving enough room to add the green bean casserole later. Put together a couple of dips / cheese spreads and got them refrigerated so I could just pull them out. My DS asked if my niece and her boyfriend could also come and of course.. the more the merrier. Rearranged things a bit and with 9 people decided to do 2 tables rather than 1. Got the table set and everything was ready with 10 minutes to spare! Score!
Family arrived and we enjoyed the appetizers for 1/2 hour or so while drinking wine. I had a big pile of photos to give my Sis and they had a lot of fun looking through them. She has almost NO photos of herself from years back as she would never allow herself to be photographed. I also had several pictures of her and Dad which were really special and lots of my nieces and nephews when they were little. They had never seen any of these photos so were really excited to get them. I told her that when the photos I am sending in to be digitized come back that she can have digital copies of what I have made. Many are from when we were children and several include Dad (who we lost 24 years ago just before Christmas).
My eating today... don't even ask. Not pretty. I'm reminding myself that it is a HoliDAY, not a HoliWEEK or a HoliYEAR. Tomorrow I'll get back on track.
After Dinner, we went to see a movie. This is a tradition for us and something we really enjoy as we don't go out to the movies often. We decided to go see "JOY" starring Jennifer Lawrence and Bradley Cooper. I like seeing the movies based on a true story... and especially a success story. I give it 3 1/2 stars out of 5. Not stellar but worthwhile.
