Chances are that I'm going to be back tomorrow to update this blog. I'm going to a party tonight and I do have a plan... but the test will be seeing it implemented. I am planning to drink white wine spritzers. If I have two, it will be the equivalent of one glass of wine. There also may be a champagne toast at midnight so I will probably have a glass of bubbly. As far as eating appetizers, I plan to stick with the veggies. I know that there will be caprese appetizers (I tried a few the other day) and those shouldn't be too bad... so maybe two. Send positive thoughts my way that I stay strong... okay?
Since today is the last day of the year, I have been doing a lot of thinking about what a terrific year it has been for DH and I. We accomplished a lot this year and had fun doing it. We have traveled to new places and participated in fun events. We sold our"big" house which is a huge relief for us financially. 2015 was a great year and we have lots of fun things planned for 2016. After having some really tough years in the past we are feeling that we are pretty well set for the future. Now, the biggie will be our health... and I'm going to do everything possible to stay in good health. DH on the other hand is a challenge. He has a tendency to drink too much (in my opinion) and he also needs to lose a good 50 pounds. He has lost some weight this year so the trend is good and I'm really hoping he sticks with a plan in 2016. As far as drinking, he doesn't see it as a problem. It isn't a problem really however I know with his artificial heart valve that he really shouldn't be drinking ANY alcohol. The fact is he drinks to excess several times a month. That is out of my control however and he is an adult... so all I can do is just hope for the best.
I have set some goals for 2016. My mantra for the year is going to be "Strong and Lean in 2016". So as you might figure, I want to stay focused on fitness and nutrition. I won't set a number on what I want to weigh... but I do want to see a downward trend. I'm also going to supplement my regular strength classes with lifting heavier weights and doing fewer reps to see if I can make some gains. Regarding running events, I'm planning on doing at least one half marathon each month (I did 10 in 2015), and will also do one sprint triathlon and maybe a few 5k's and 10k's. I have also decided to put my name in the hat for the Marine Corp Marathon in Washington DC. I have only done one full marathon in the past (Portland 2013) and felt good about it...however the training schedule is grueling. I am a slow runner and getting ready for a marathon requires quite a bit of time. I'm not getting any younger however and with my work schedule cut back to just 2 days a week I should have time for proper training. There is no guarantee I'll get in as it is a lottery (there are more people that want to run it than spots available) however I'm going to try for a bib. Fingers and toes crossed. If I get in, we would drive and take the camper doing a lot of sight seeing, etc. It would be an epic adventure!
Other goals for the year have to do with home improvements. We have a lot of unfinished work and DH and I have gone through and prioritized what needs to be done. We have even set aside money ... but the biggie is having the time as most of the work we (meaning DH lol) will do ourselves. Some things we will have done (such as exterior and interior painting) however before that can happen other things need to be done (finish sheetrock inside, replace exterior doors) Sigh... seems like a vicious circle. But the good news is we are getting started with the process. In fact today he drove me to my hair appt in Portland and then went and picked up a bunch of lumber that he needs. Hooray!
Okay, for the day I did a 2 mile walk on the treadmill this morning then went to a one hour spin class at the gym. I'm hoping that I'll feel up to going to spin class in the morning as that would be a great start to the year. It is still really cold and icy outside so the run I'm scheduled for tomorrow will most likely happen in the afternoon.

2 slices bacon
1/2 cup grapes
Protein Shake with banana/almond milk
Panda Express Mixed Vegetables and String Bean Chicken
Sauteed Vegetables (white potato, sweet potato, carrots, onion, seasonings)
with 1 oz cheddar cheese
3/4 c warmed applesauce with 1/4 c berries and dollop of FF whip
2 White Wine Spritzers
2 Caprese Appetizers
Tomorrow morning is a weigh in so I know how I finished the year. My best guesstimate is up 6-7 pounds. Stay tuned!
Happy New Year! Thanks for stopping ... I'm happy to tell you my New Year's Eve plan worked! I had two drinks diluted with seltzer water/ice and two appetizers. Ended the year with a success... that is a good way for me to start the New Year.
