My Body (Image)

Sunday, January 31, 2016

Well, I'm back on the band wagon, this time not for a New Years resolution, but to stay healthy, keep my lungs strong and lose some weight.

Yesterday my husband said the sweetest thing to me, knowing my struggle is real. He said there is a bathing suit model that looks like me, Barbie Ferreira. He showed me the video. (Link attached). WHAT?! Not even close! She is 18, I'm 43. She's 5'8", I'm 5'2". She's cute... Horrible thoughts ran through my head.

He said, she is, curvy, I'm curvy. She has a short torso, I have a short torso. She has something to grab (he meant larger behind, I know he likes that), I have something to grab. Convo ended quickly. I was NOT going to discuss it.

Later, watching tv, I told him that he was sweet for saying that. He said he was not trying to be a jerk, but I'm not the only curvy women. He was genuine.

What a difference between what I think I look like.... A fat old lady who hates every fat cell in her body and wants to eat her way out of it..... And what my husband thinks I look like.... We are both wrong... But at least I know I'm the only one bothered by my image of myself.

Side note: I LOVE this REAL people campaign.

Good for you AND your DH! So many women are stuck in relationships where their partner berates and belittles them! You can move forward knowing he loves you, bigger or smaller.

Having such a loving husband is great...until it comes to motivation for getting more fit. Sometimes I think, "well, my husband loves my body so why not just stay this way? After all, that's so much easier...". But then I ride my bike to the mailbox (we have a 1/4 mile drive) and I can't believe how hard it is, or I put on a swimsuit for the first time that summer. Then I wish I had not given up on clean eating, or on the daily workouts. So this year I'm going to stick with it so that this summer I'm not disappointed in myself but proud of myself, as I strut my stuff in a bikini after a long bike ride through the countryside :)
Welcome back, friend! We CAN do this! emoticon

Funny how our self image rarely agrees with others! My friend snapped a photo of me while we were out to dinner. I was laughing, my eyes were half closed, my mouth was open and my double chin looked almost triple. She posted it on facebook. Then I saw there was a comment and 4 likes. I was a little mortified at first - but read the comment that said "Nice Pic" I was wondering if the person was being sarcastic or what. I commented back "photogenic me" and the comment back was "you look so joyful. having fun, no doubt". I left the pic up. This is the me people see and love (or don't). I'm ok with that now! Finally!

I love the REAL campaign too! Let's keep working on that self image thing!
