Thought and Prayer for Wednesday, February 24, 2016

We have a responsibility to fear God. This does not mean we are to be afraid of Him. This does not mean we are to run from Him. It means we are to run to Him. It means we are to fear Him because of His power and wisdom and love. Just as a child should respect and obey her parents because they love her and know what is best for her, we are to respect and obey God. Fearing God is about understanding who He truly is and knowing what He has done and will continue to do. His power is greater than the most powerful person or act of nature. He is able to do all things and tells us to fear only Him because of who He is. He wants us to take action and work hard to share His Good News because of our fearful responsibility to Him.

2 Corinthians 5:11 “Because we understand our fearful responsibility to the Lord, we work hard to persuade others. God knows we are sincere, and I hope you know this, too.” (NLT)

Dear Lord, we want to fear only You. We want to remember in all we do how great and powerful You truly are. We want to serve only You and not fear man nor what he can do to us. We know Your power is greater than any other person or act of nature. We want to responsibly fear You and take the action You have called us to do telling others of Your word, Your greatness and Your Good News. Show us opportunities to do that today. In Jesus’ name. Amen.

God wants us to serve only Him and fear Him alone.

Deuteronomy 13:4 “Serve only the LORD your God and fear him alone. Obey his commands, listen to his voice, and cling to him.” (NLT)

We shouldn’t fear others or what they can do to us. Only God has the power to destroy our souls in hell forever.

Matthew 10:28 “Don’t be afraid of those who want to kill your body; they cannot touch your soul. Fear only God, who can destroy both soul and body in hell.” (NLT)

We should consider what God has done and fear Him because of His great power, promises and truths.

1 Samuel 12:24 “Only fear the LORD, and serve him in truth with all your heart: for consider how great things he hath done for you.” (KJV)

Focus: We have a responsibility to take action for God and serve Him in truth.

If God is for you, who can be against you. With that fear comes a lot of comfort too. Thanks for the post.
