March 1, 2016 SUFFERING

Suffering is going through distress, pain or hardship. We have all suffered at one point in our lives. We have all had hard times. We have all been rejected, felt down and out or pity for ourselves. Suffering can be caused by our own doing or by the actions of others. We can also suffer because of our belief in God. However, we can rejoice in our suffering knowing God can make good from it. God uses our suffering to help us learn. He wants us to share our stories of suffering with others to help them as well.

“We know that God causes everything to work together for the good of those who love God…” Rom. 8:28 (NLT)

Dear Lord, we know suffering is a part of life. We know there are going to be good times and bad times while we are here on earth. Help us to recognize when we are suffering You are still near. Help us to remember when we are suffering to have hope. Help us to acknowledge our suffering as an opportunity to draw closer to You and share with others how great You truly are and know You are able to bring good in all situations. In Jesus’ name. Amen.

When we are suffering, we can have hope in God because He has a plan.

God doesn’t like us to suffer but it is sometimes necessary for us to do so to make us stronger.

We can know God’s plan for our lives includes suffering and trust in Him to help us through those hard times.

God can bring good out of bad. He took the pain and suffering of Jesus and brought us salvation.

God’s will for us is to be thankful in all things – even when we are suffering.

1 Thessalonians 5:18 “Be thankful in all circumstances, for this is God’s will for you who belong to Christ Jesus.” (NLT)

Focus: The outcome from suffering is our choice. We can choose to put our hope in God or we can choose to wallow in self-pity.
