Making It Work

If you've been reading my posts and status updates, you'll know that I have a chef as a roommate. She is a very large lady who has no interest of losing weight. So, when she cooks dinner for the 3 of us, it's seldom a healthy meal. It's ALWAYS delightfully delicious! emoticon I usually eat with her and her boyfriend 2, maybe 3, times a week.

To counteract living with someone who cooks high fat, high calorie meals, I started making soups for lunch and having light breakfasts. I've never been a large breakfast eater, but I do know that eating breakfast at least curbs my appetite so that I'm not trying to eat my arm at 11 am. I can wait until 1, or so, until I need lunch.

My soups have ranged from not your average cabbage soup (to see something similar, look at cabbage patch soup on; although I alter it quite a bit), to a turkey sausage curry stew, to a bean & kale vegetable soup. Typically, my soups range from 200-300 calories per serving and I have a few crackers with it.

Yesterday, I was a little worried about what we were having for dinner because it is always an unknown. I walked in the door and saw croissants, strawberry sauce, and waldorf chicken salad. They then told me there was cheesecake for dessert. emoticon

I knew I had about 650 calories remaining for the day, so I enjoyed dinner and dessert. I didn't overeat. I didn't eat seconds. They even packaged up leftover salad and a croissant for me to eat for lunch today (because it can't freeze like my last serving of soup can). I input everything into my tracker nervous I'd be over after having everything with dinner and dessert. I came out under for my calories for the day. emoticon So, I enjoyed a cup of chocolate almond milk with my nightly pills. emoticon

    My husband is the cook in this house and has little interest in veggie meals or light meals. So I learned like you, eat light and smart all day and keep portions small for dinner!

    We gotta live and work with what we have.

    That is a GREAT idea. Seriously. You work with what you have. I do the same things on days I know I'm going to eat out, and I don't know where I'm going. Way to go.
