Week 9: At what point does counting calories become an obsession?

Today is Sunday and my weight was down 1 lb. this morning since last week for a total of 7 lbs. in 8 weeks since I began tracking my calories on SparkPeople. I also logged over 25 miles of walking this past week. I am determined to continue tracking my calories for the next 2 weeks because I set a goal to do this for 10 weeks.
Someone expressed concern that I am becoming obsessed with counting calories and too fixated on my weight. I explained that counting calories works for me because I am a numbers person. I also like the feeling of being in control and the satisfaction of accomplishing a goal. Everyone is different and what works for one person may not work for the next. I am just happy I have finally found something that works for me.
Should I simply ignore people who think I am being obsessive?
