Thought and Prayer for Tuesday, April 12, 2016

If we did what we felt like doing all the time, what would we be doing? Many of us would stay in the bed a bit longer. Many of us would eat a lot more. Some of us may stay home more while others go on trips all the time. Without responsibilities, our opportunities are limitless. Without having to do what God calls us to do, we could do so much more for us. However, if we stay on the path of doing what we want to do, where we end up will not be pleasant. It will not be pleasant at all. So doing what we want all the time is an option we have but the result of that, in the end, would be very costly.

James 4:17 "Remember, it is sin to know what you ought to do and then not do it." (NLT)

Dear Lord, we know what we ought to be doing. You tell us in Your word. We also know what things we shouldn't be doing. Help us to be responsible to only You. Sometimes we allow our feelings to get in the way and want to do what we want to do but we know that is not right. We know there will be consequences. We know there will be discipline. Remind us daily to turn to You for direction so we are doing what You call us to do and we are doing the right things. In Jesus; name. Amen.

To be responsible means we do what we are supposed to do even if no one else around us is doing the right thing.

We know what we ought to be doing so what is keeping us from doing it.

When we don't do what we are supposed to be doing, we are going against God's will.

Human nature pulls us into doing what we shouldn't. That is why we need God's word to help us out.

We shouldn't make our own plans and leave the Lord out.

James 4:15 "What you ought to say is, 'If the Lord wants us to, we will live and do this or that.'" (NLT)

Focus: God has a plan for us and if we don't go to Him to find it, we won't be doing His will.
