Thought and Prayer for Monday, April 25, 2016

Monday, April 25, 2016

It doesn't take much for us to feel proud. When someone pats us on the back for a job well done, we feel good about ourselves. When our children do something great, we become proud parents. We boast and show off what good we have done or what things we have acquired on Facebook and other social media. However, God tells us to be humble. God tells us to pray. God tells us to be grateful and give Him the glory in all things. He says the proud are wicked. We need to be careful about how much we boast and remember it takes discipline to be humble in all things. When we are humble, we are right with God.

2 Chronicles 7:14 "Then if my people who are called by my name will humble themselves and pray and seek my face and turn from their wicked ways, I will hear from heaven and will forgive their sins and restore their land." (NLT)

Dear Lord, help us to remember to humble ourselves before You. Humility is something we all need to have in order to draw closer to You. When we believe we are great without You, we are only fooling ourselves. We want to humble ourselves before You, turn from our sin and seek Your forgiveness, Your mercy and Your love. We want to give You all the glory for what we have and know without You, we are nothing. In Jesus' name. Amen.

Despite what things we have and how great we may think we are - without God, we are nothing.

Our greatness is nothing compared to the greatness of God.

When we are tempted to boast about how great things are going, let's remember God asks us to be humble.

Those who boast and are proud have forgotten all good things come from God.

James 1:17a "Whatever is good and perfect is a gift coming down to us from God our Father" (NLT)

If we want to be lifted up by God, we need to bow down and humble ourselves before Him.

1 Peter 5:6 "So humble yourselves under the mighty power of God, and at the right time he will lift you up in honor." (NLT)

Focus: Never forget all we have is a gift from God.
