Whole 30 - Day 4

Tuesday, May 17, 2016

Thanks to everyone's comments on my blog the other day. Support and thoughts appreciated.

I've been doing pretty well - not really any cravings, so much so as habits - like diet soda and sugar free gum. La Croix and brushing my teeth have helped conquer those . I also really miss a bit of sweetener in my coffee, but nothing too bad yet. I didn't eat, as main meals at least, a ton of process foods, though some have crept in as of late, so it's not too bad to eat this clean. It's the treat sort of things that would get me.

Trying to not make La Croix a crutch either, though I love the fizz.

Whole 30 discourages snacking, and I think when I have done it once or twice the last few days, I have been hungrier. The challenge is to make my meals large and filling enough that I'm able to be satisfied until the next. As such, I have been eating larger meals and a bit more than I am used to in terms of calories for weight loss, but not too much. And I'm not relying on my usual my crutches like sugar free ice cream or a cookie like I usually do.

Tummy has been okay - still kind of figuring it out, but not too bad. Certainly not as bad as the intermittent issues that I was having. Sometimes, I would be great - no issues for a week or two or more. Then sometimes, gas and indigestion. Sometimes, I can't go. Sometimes, I go 3-4 or more times a day for days in a row. Foods would change during these periods, so I hadn't been able to nail down what it was. I have been all over the map with medical professionals and tested for this, that and the other.

I am working on my sweet tooth and trying not to rely on fruits, etc. to get that hit. Trying to limit it to 2-3 per day. I figure if that serving of roasted plantains (heaven, btw, to roast ripe ones in the oven on parchment paper with a light mist of olive oil) is the worst thing that I have, I'm probably okay.

"The Whole 30" book discusses how to reintroduce more in depth than "It Starts With Food." I'm not sure yet how I really want to do it - I think it will depend on how I am feeling about everything closer to the end.

So far, I do like eating this way. It does feel more satisfying to have more fats, but I have occasionally struggled a little with protein which I would like higher. Going to have to evaluate my protein choices more closely as I meal plan for next week.

26 more days to go.

Your tummy issues sound like mine. Trial and error sucks in this case.
