Nola Strikes Again
Saturday, May 28, 2016
Today was the last day of the All-Town Rummage Sale and because she was spending the day with us, four-year-old Nola went with me to some sales in a very pretty rural area North of town. On the way, I reminded Nola that she should stay right with me, not touch anything, and to not beg for any toys. We had also been talking about "Stranger Danger" in the past week and I reminded her to be nice but not too friendly if she didn't know the person. The sales we went to were some of the best I had seen all weekend and I came away with some real treasures. I didn't know any of the people running the sales, but as most of you are women, you know how easily we can relate to each other and carry on extended conversations.
On the way home, Nola asked me who the lady was that I talked to for so long. I told her that I didn't know her and had just met her today. She then said, and I quote, "When we get home, Grandma, you have to sit in the time-out chair for talking to strangers."
I did!!!!! And then afterward, we had another talk about how adults have pretty good instincts about the people they meet and are careful NOT to get themselves into dangerous situations................that it is very different from a four-year-old talking to someone they don't know. I don't want to scare her so bad that she can't warm up to the adults in her life, but at the same time, I do want her to be cautious. She is so friendly and trusting and loves everybody at this stage, but needs to learn caution and boundaries. It worked to talk to her older sister at this age, BUT..................this is Nola. I'll keep you posted!!!!!
