So true. I always remember the older brother of a friend I grew up with. He joined the Canadian Army at the time of the Korean war, and was killed there at age 19. He was really sweet and kind. I can remember him helping us smaller kids with our bikes, or filling in if we needed someone else to play ball.
There's a memorial to Canadians who died in Korea in Brampton, Ontario, and I've gone there to put a poppy on his name.
When we visited Washington a few years ago, I was most impressed by the Korean Memorial... the more-than-life-size soldiers slogging through the mud were so well done that it was easy to imagine what their life must have been like during the war.
