Day 1

Tuesday, May 31, 2016

My oldest son and daughter-in-law hired a teen-age Nanny to take care of their 9 and 4 year-old girls for the summer. She is still in school and can't begin her childcare until next Wednesday, June 8th. So..............Grandpa and Grandma were called on to help out. We love our Grand-daughters dearly, but they are VERY active and we have them from 7:30 AM until 5:30PM or later every day this week and overnight on Friday night until about noon on Saturday. By then, I will probably be mumbling incoherently or passed out from exhaustion. Hopefully, we will both be up to it and have made some plans to help with entertainment.

Today was Day 1. Today is also Elizabeth's 9th Birthday. She opened her presents shortly after arriving this morning and then before lunch, we made cupcakes and decorated them in pink, purple and blue frosting with sprinkles. We each tried one and I sent the rest home with her. It was a beautiful morning, so we went for a walk in the woods and played with our Cairn Terrier for a while. Then Elizabeth helped me plant some perennials that I had purchased at one of the All-Town Rummage Sales. Four-year-old Nola joined us but went down for a nap about 10 and slept until noon. After lunch we took the girls to a nearby town and ran some errands plus did some grocery shopping. When we arrived at home, the girls played in the tree house that my husband built for them a couple of years ago and then when it began to rain, they came in the house and Elizabeth read one of the books I purchased for her for her birthday, and Nola and I played a game. Their Daddy came to pick them up at 4 today because Elizabeth had swim lessons at4:30 and Nola had her first Karate Lesson at 6. I would love to be a fly on the wall at that first Karate Lesson. I can picture the instructor spending the first night just getting them to stand in line and wait their turn. And.............I would guess that Nola will add to the humor of the lesson as she always does. I can't wait to hear about it tomorrow.

So..................we made it through Day 1. I managed to lose 2.25# last week and did well with my food intake today plus got a lot of steps in trying to keep up with two busy girls. We shall see what tomorrow brings.................

Oh my goodness Patti, I don't know if I could handle that! I have my 15 month old grandson 4-5 days a week for 9 hours and I am wiped out when he leaves. I really don't get a chance to recover before he is back. I love him with all my heart, but I am in way over my

I know you will have a wonderful time with Nola and Elizabeth. You and your husband are wonderful grandparents and your son and DIL are lucky to have you.

    Congrats on the weight loss!

your school holidays must be different than ours. Children here go almost until the end of June and then go back after Labour Day.

I understand what you mean about feeling exhausted by the time they go home; just as I love Aria, I'm done-in (done-out?) the day after she's here. She has learned to climb the stairs (with supervision of course) but still has to be carried back down.

Enjoy your week, but go to bed early each night.

    Hugs, Gail

emoticon Grandma! These are precious memories that you and they will remember for ever. Whenever I get to have my grandsons, 4 and 5 I feel like a wrung out dishtowel afterwards but wouldn't trade that time for anything. You and Grandpa will survive and the girls will be your forever darlings. Cherish these few days.
WTG on losing weight this week. Just think how much you will lose this week, running after a 4 year old, LOL.

    Have a great time Grandma.

Wow! Looks like you have a very eventful day! Congratulations on your weight loss! I am sure you will lose more this week with the girls around. We definitely need a lot of energy when we are around the young ones. The other thing is enjoy them while they are still young as they grow up all too soon. I can't wait to hear more tomorrow.

I only had one child. It was enough keeping up with him. When Brianna was 2 and Tyler 9 months Heather got sick and I took the kids for 2 nights. I never would have made it without my friend downstairs. If I was feeding the baby, Brianna wanted something. She was a little jealous of Tyler. It was right after Christmas and we were having a blizzard so I couldn't let her out. When their parents came to pick them up I kissed them emoticon told them I loved them and to come back again and when they were out of sight my friends and I were singing The Happiest Girl in the Whole USA I had a new respect for my SIL.

Patricia, I have an 8 year old soon to be 9 granddaughter and she wipes me out. Her energy is also full power and this summer, she will be with me for a week. But there is a wonderful day camp at a school close to where I live and guess what? Yup, she is going to that camp every day…I could not keep up with her if I had her 24 hours for 7 days. And her brother? Well he is only 2. So he has a few years yet before he visits "mimi." That is the name they call me…Ha! hugs dear friend, fredie aka mimi.
