Solving Lifestyle Problems

Sunday, July 10, 2016

Ever since I wandered into the volunteer life, my happy running life has suffered terribly. When I was in my 20s and 30s, I stuggled with identity and purpose, etc. and when I discovered running and 5ks, I felt like I had discovered my life. Volunteer work with my local theatre and humane society gave me a serious resume and skills but it also wore me down and sent me into a serious depression. It's taken me 10 hard years and a little pekingese to turn that around. My dog Suri is a former foster that I didn't really plan on adopting, but she lost an eye and it was just easier to adopt than search for that rare soul who could care for her properly. Suri has been a challenge for me and I've had to search for ways to enjoy my life... while adding to hers. I found the answer two months ago with a trike and wow, am I loving the life. The heat has been tough on us, so we only trike in the mornings, but it's amazing what 9 mins in the morning has done for the rest of my life: I'm more alert, more productive and rarely get tired even though I have to stand all day at work; I can now walk as fast as my taller brother; I lasted longer jogging on my trampoline today due to those stronger legs; I'm happier walking the dog.

We had a new member in my rebounder team and it inspired me to get my rebounder out. My cats have been enjoying it more than me lately. I managed 22 minutes of a mixed routine of bouncing, jogging, stretching and kettlebell swings. I hope to keep this up.

I also am excited because I need to run for my soul and it's difficult because I have a neighbor who wants to go to the gym after work and that takes all my time at night... so I found a park with a bathroom and now I can change at work and run in the shade! It's not perfect... it's a small area, but once it gets cooler, I can jog on the walking path in the sun... right now that doesn't appeal LOL. If I can just do 15 mins a couple of times during the week and then jog longer on the weekend, I will be so happy!!!!
