are you here again??

Wednesday, July 20, 2016

It is such a beautiful, but deadly hot day. I sat on the deck for a little while, allowing my hair to dry naturally in the sun, but it was just too hot.
I got out of bed early this morning and got to the track before the heat got up.
I walked an extra ten minutes this morning.
I loved it though.

Now, school starts back in just under 3 weeks, so, I look for the hoards of walking moms to start showing up.
It is a pattern. Starts around mid to late August, all the moms who drop kiddies off at school come to the track and walk.
Most of them have on coordinated spandex outfits, hair up in a nice matching headband.
I look even more frumpy than usual next to them with my barely combed hair pushed back in a dollar store headband. My old tshirt I have been wearing for a year or so now. And my old danskin walking bermuda shorts with the bleach stain on the back.

And they power pump their arms and talk the whole time without losing their breath.
I slug along, earbuds in, listening to my music, but still hearing all about the busy day they have planned. letting them walk on past me, trying to hide the coffee stain on my tshirt and hoping they dont notice the stubble on my legs.

But sometime around mid October they begin to dwindle.
Walking in the evening is good in the cooler days of fall, I enjoy it, but then football season starts, bringing in the evening practices and games twice a week.
Moms with brothers and sisters in the park riding bikes and skateboards have to make way for the runners and the walkers. The park is full, the parking lot is full. Somedays I have had to park at the church down the street.

I love it though.
I love seeing the little league boys in their football uniforms, it takes me back.
Then sometime around mid November they are all gone.
It usually just goes back to us regulars.
And I hope I am still there.
I hope I am there again tomorrow morning before the heat gets up.

I used to be worried that I was heavier than everyone else or didn't have the appropriate workout clothes, but now, I don't care. I am doing this for me not anyone else. Why would I spent close to $100 for workout clothes that I am going to sweat in. Makes no sense. Guess what? I don't even wash my hair when I go to the gym or ride my bike. I'm not trying to impress anyone.

Being around the very fit soccer moms can be intimidating, but I find them to be a lot of fun. My fitness classes are full of 20 and 30 somethings with little kids. I must say that they keep me young, so it's all good. Enjoy your walks!!!

I think I would like that too! I might even spring for some special workout duds! but I would keep the dollar store head bands. I actually like the crab claw clips! Keep it up !

Very good read. But its your choice to wear dollar store headbands and not shave or wash your clothes to get the stains out. You are equal to every other human being. If your self deprecating remarks were meant to be humorous, then I get it.
