Day 49 of 70, Closing out Week 7

At midnight tonight, I will have completed 70% of the Summer Biggest Loser Challenge (BLC). This has also been a 'vacation' week for me, in as much as a freelancer can really have a vacation. I finished up a contract and am waiting to start another next week, so I'm taking advantage of a little lull to do some R&R.

I've had fun this week trying out new recipes, new virtual modeling apps and just taking life slowly. This has been a good fit with the week's inter-team challenge to de-stress, and to eat veggies. I've even had a barbecue, something I so rarely do.

On my 'staycation' this week, I have also indulged a bit with the sorbet. It has been hot, and that has been my treat. I'm staying within my calorie range though, averaging 1415 cals/day this week against my BMR of 1630. That's still creating a deficit despite being a bit sluggish with the heat and humidity, which has made my burn factor suffer. My weight seems to be holding steady, although today's measurements showed a quarter inch off my waist (down a total of 1 inch since starting the Summer challenge). That puts my waist-to-hip ratio below .80 for the first time in a while.

There is still 30% of the challenge ahead of me, and I want to make the most of it. I've actually gotten used to my reduced calorie intake and am no longer ravenous all the time. I still need to track religiously to make sure I'm balancing out my carbs, fat and protein (and getting enough of everything), but it is nice to not be craving absolutely everything anymore.

Looking at my track record, I should be able to lose 2-3 more pounds in the next 3 weeks. That means a calorie deficit of 500 per day, which is reasonable if I am somewhat active and eat right. And drink my water. And get my sleep. I have to get back on track with a good sleep schedule in anticipation of the end of vacation. That will be a goal for Week 8!
