August 6, 2016 OUR WORDS
So many times the things we say are taken the wrong way. So many people get upset about what was said for the wrong reasons. That is why communication is so important. When we take time to clarify what has been said rather than assume it was meant a certain way, we will better understand what the other person is saying. When we make sure others understand us and we understand others, our communications will not be taken wrong and there will be less dissension and anger between us.
Proverbs 15:1 "A gentle answer deflects anger, but harsh words make tempers flare." (NLT)
Dear Lord, help us to be sure what we say is both pleasing to You and to others. We know sometimes words can be taken the wrong way. Help us, as the recipients of the message ensure we understand what is being said. Help those who hear our words also take time to know and understand as well. Thank You for Your reminders about how we need to be more careful with the words we use so we are not quick to stir up anger. In Jesus' name. Amen.
When others misunderstand our words, relationships can be broken.
When we don't take time to understand someone's message to us, we could easily be quick to get angry.
God wants us to be sure our words do not provoke anger.
We should take time in every conversation to be sure we understand the message and not get upset or angry.
If we want to be wise, we need to choose our words carefully and listen with understanding.
Proverbs 17:27 "A truly wise person uses few words; a person with understanding is even-tempered." (NLT)
Focus: Listen with understanding and remember to speak gently so no one is provoked to anger.
