August 8, 2016 WHAT DEFILES US
God tells us what we put into our mouths is not near as important as what we put into our hearts and minds. We can't help others or set the example for others when our lives are not right with God. Let's examine our lives today and ask God if we are putting anything in our minds and hearts that we need to allow Him to remove so we can better live for Him. Let's be sure our words are pleasing to God and encouraging to others.
Ephesians 4:29 "Don't use foul or abusive language. Let everything you say be good and helpful, so that your words will be an encouragement to those who hear them." (NLT)
Dear Lord, remind us daily of the things we are watching, listening to or reading. We know what goes into our minds comes out in our actions. Help us to remember You want us to say good and helpful things to others. Help us to remember You want us to read Your word and meditate on it. We know Your word is all we need to live a life according to Your will. In Jesus' name. Amen.
When we set a godly example by allowing God's words to speak through us, we are living in obedience to Him.
We can't help others or set the example for others when our lives are not right with God.
If we want words and actions that are pleasing to God, we need to put only good things into our hearts and minds.
When we eat something bad for us, we see bad results. When we watch or read bad things, we may be tempted to have wrong thoughts.
God tells us our words reveal to others and to Him what is in our hearts.
Matthew 15:11 "It's not what goes into your mouth that defiles you; you are defiled by the words that come out of your mouth." (NLT)
Focus: If we want good output in our lives, we need good input.
