Having some time at the beach, alone, has been wonderful.
I love having my family with me, but this year, no one else could come, so I have lots of time for introspection.
--I don't need to walk on the beach to enjoy it. Last year I walked on the beach three times and twisted my ankle twice, so this year I was leery of beach ambling. The condo has a deck that overlooks the beach and I have found I can sit there, listen to the surf, people-, dog-, and seagull-watch and truly enjoy myself. I don't have sand all over myself, but I can deal.
--when I am not on a "schedule" I don't eat as much or as often--perhaps I don't feel the pressure to eat because it's time!
--walking when I have a destination is relatively easy.
I found I could walk over 5 miles when I was walking to and from the grocery store. When I return home, I will have to start walking into town and back. Even if it is just to Starbucks, it would give me a 4+ mile walk.
--I love not having a schedule. I will continue to work and volunteer through next year, but then I hope to be able to say goodbye to the "have-to's" of my life.
