August 12, 2016 KISS

K.I.S.S. is an acronym for "keep it simple, stupid" or "keep it super simple." There are other versions of it out there but the main idea is to keep things simple. Sometimes we can overcomplicate life because we make big promises we can't keep. We sometimes overpromise and under deliver. However, God tells us when we reply to a request to keep it simple. A simple "yes" or "no" will suffice. We don't have to overpromise because that could lead to broken promises and unfulfilled undertakings. We don't need to swear for emphasis because that is not necessary to God.

James 5:12 "But most of all, my brothers and sisters, never take an oath, by heaven or earth or anything else. Just say a simple yes or no, so that you will not sin and be condemned." (NLT)

Dear Lord, remind us to keep our words and answers simple. Remind us we don't have to overcomplicate things with our words. Help us to speak simply and plainly and be sure we follow through with what we say we are going to do. We want to be men and women of our word where others will know they can depend on us because we have faith in You. In Jesus' name. Amen.

We don't need to make any promises we can't keep to God.

Swearing by heaven or by God's name is of the devil. It pleases him.

Promising on our grave or the lives of others is wrong. Just say yes or no.

We can keep our promises to God without being dramatic about it. Our replies should be short and simple.

God wants us to respond to Him with a simple yes or no when we answer.

Matthew 5:37 "Just say a simple, 'Yes, I will,' or 'No, I won't.' Anything beyond this is from the evil one." (NLT)

Focus: We ought to be people of integrity - yes is yes and no is no. Our word should mean something to others.
