Husband's Injection #2 and Follow-Up
Monday, August 29, 2016
Well injection #2 did much better than injection #1. They do want to do a 3rd one to see how much he improves with it. They do a series of physical therapy-type tests each time before and after to check his progress. They check his reflexes on each leg, have him try to stand on each leg, etc. He wasn't able to raise up on his toes on the left leg with the first injection at all, but after the 2nd one is now able to raise his heel up off the floor a little bit. He's not able to bounce up and down like he can with his right leg, but it's a baby step! That shows some improvement in the nerve to the docs. They are pleased with that progress.
My hubby says he isn't having as much numbness and it isn't extending all the way down to the foot as much now, so that is VERY good news. It seems to be stopping around the knee for the most part. He said every once in a while he will feel a little tingling sensation in his toes, but it's not near as frequent as it was. I hope that we are finally on the mend and headed in the right direction.
Now, the injection day itself wasn't so pleasant. He said they just flat out couldn't get him numb. He felt every little touch and bend of the needle and it was miserable. I am glad that overall this one has been a success where the first one seemed to not do much of anything.
He is still on very restrictive duty at work and isn't allowed to lift anything over 5lbs. So, things are still pretty crazy around here, but thankfully we had an 18-year-old cousin move in recently to start college here on campus and he has been a HUGE help around here with some of the heavy lifting. That's been a MAJOR blessing to me! God always knows when to send help when you need it most!
