Flu Vaccines Prevented approximately 67,000 flu-related hospitalizations during the 2014-2015 flu season, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC). Furthermore, people who got the shot were 50 to 60 percent less likely to get sick than people who didn't.
The CDC recommends everyone age 6 months and older gets immunized as soon as vaccines are available. Children age 6 months to 8 years who have never received a flu vaccine, or have had only one dose in the past, need a second vaccination four weeks after the first to be fully protected this season.
