So a few weeks ago, I watched the documentary, "Fat, Sick and Nearly Dead" on Netflix. It was fascinating and made alot of sense.
I have a juicer which I use periodically. Honestly, it's a beast to clean and bulky and I had banished it to the basement. Well, I dug it out and decided to try a juice fast for 10 days.
I did it! I did eat a garden salad with a squeeze of lemon and a bowl of soup because we had an unplanned trip to my daughter's in the middle of the fast but other than that, I stuck to it.
You are supposed to have four juices a day. Some days I had three. Once I only had two because the day got away from me but I tried to have the four. I felt absolutely amazing!
When I say my skin was flawless, I mean perfect! There was not a mark or a wrinkle on it. It was like looking at my 30 year old self again. After the first three days, my energy was boundless (the first three were rough!) I also lost just over 12 lbs. The hardest part was I couldn't exercise like I normally do. I knew with my cals being so low if I'd done my normal workouts, I would have been sick. I just walked and did yoga for most of the fast.
I wasn't really in it to lose weight as I was happy where I was but hey, I'll take it!
I've decided to incorporate juicing into my life once again. We did go away to see our son right after the fast and ate and drank all weekend at his college. He does NOT like when I am not on board with the "fun" foods! Lol He thinks I'm ridiculous with all of the "healthy" stuff. He only sees my outside and despite me telling him repeatedly that I have to nurture the inside at this age, he just sees the shell. Therefore, I just go with the flow and eat everything. He sees me joining in the party and only I'm aware of the moderation.
I did gain 4 lbs and just don't have the pep in my step that i did after the fast. My skin is also markedly different. A few fine lines are back and the elasticity isn't as good as it was a week ago.
My plan is to work juicing into my lifestyle. I can honestly say it is incredibly beneficial for me. Just thought I'd share my little experiment! 😉
