Extended Fast - Day 8 Review

Sunday, November 06, 2016

It's finally Friday! Woohoo! Right now I'm at 209 hours of fasting. No food, only water, unsweetened tea with no cream, and an occasional cup of bone broth.

It's been interesting with my blood sugar. It's getting a bit higher (only the 70s which isn't high normally, but during the fast it's been in the 50s and 60s) and maybe it's related to stress. I don't know, but I'm not worried about it.

There are multiple benefits to fasting which is what I'm pursuing, in addition to the weight loss. I wanted to break the 170 make and I have, now to see if I can stay below 170. I'll definitely be keeping an eye on it!

What are the benefits of fasting? Improved memory, better concentration, reduced inflammation, increased insulin sensitivity, reduced blood pressure, lower heart rate, less fatty liver, increased fat-burning, decreased leptin, decreased atherosclerosis, weight loss. I'm sure there are more, but these are the ones I got from an infographic in Dr. Jason Fung's and Jimmy Moore's book, "The Complete Guide to Fasting". If you want to know more about fasting, BUY THAT BOOK! :D

Here are today's numbers:

167 pounds down 1.0 from yesterday for a total loss of 13 pounds in this fast.

My fasting blood sugar was 74, up about 8 points from the last few days. I did dream that I ate some roasted and salted sunflower seeds, maybe that made my blood sugar go up? :P

I blew 3 reds on the Ketonix this morning, still in deep ketosis.

Tomorrow morning is when I'll be ending this fast, and I'm ready for it. My stomach has been growling more than usual today. Not loud rumbles, just small murmurs, but enough to have me thinking I need to start eating again. I'm so looking forward to the meals I have planned for the next week! I'm trying something different. Instead of cooking one dish and having that as my meal every day for a week, I'm doing something different every day. I think part of my problem has been that I've gotten bored with too much of the exact same meal, and while I eat that meal I also eat more food that I'm not hungry for because I want the variety. It's important to listen to your body. I know I keep saying that, but it's something we don't do these days. Your body is designed to tell you what you need and it does do that.

I'm also excited that my personal getaway to Mendocino County is only a week away! I'll be driving there next Friday morning and staying through Sunday at noon. Yay!

Keto and fast on!
