I feel "Over the hill" to-day!

There is a saying: "You are only as old as you feel!"
-and--to-day, I feel old!

You see, son#3, the Policeman, was just trying to make life easier for us--
"Why don't we grocery shop after supper on a Friday night?" he said.
We tried it last evening.
----after we had vacuumed the whole house, walked Germans (as in dogs--big dogs!)- Himself put up 2 artificial Xmas trees outside, and I covered shrubs which could get damaged with snow , (if we ever get snow!)- falling from the roof, I made soup--got dinner ready---then------we hit the grocery.

The shelves were being restocked----
I couldn't get too much on my list-----
"Come back to-morrow", the Stock boys told us----
The whole point of going last evening was so I would NOT have to go back to-morrow--which is to-day!
We staggered home----chewing at each other.
"This was a bad idea", himself informed me-

"Old people can't do so much in one day"--I muttered to himself, who never heard me-
And so----I feel very old to-day!
And to make matters worse, at the pool last week, while watching 4 Grandchildren swim lengths of our local pool, a grey haired Lady who looked like another Grandmother, got up from her chair, and offered her seat on the bench, to "ME"---
Lord love a Duck!
I really do feel "over the hill" to-day!

I KNOW. Everything seems to take a little longer and is more exhausting than Ever Before. I live with my Mom who is 87 and I see it in her and also myself. As you so aptly put it, Lord Love a DUCK!!

Lynda, I think you do way too much each day. But, I guess that is what keeps you young. Have a great day and try to fit a nap in. emoticon

Feeling 'over the hill' is sometimes inevitable as is feeling bad for overeating, but (a good butt) the best thing is to bounce back on the positive track! emoticon

Okay, just reading this exhausted me! I try to never shop on the weekend, including Friday night. Our Thanksgiving is Thursday, there is simply no way I would go to the store now! We've found Tuesday afternoon a good time to shop, but the stores are always more crowded from now through the new year.

I do a big on-line shop every 2 weeks. A man arrives at my door at the time arranged, you can even track his little truck on the computer. He wheels it right into my kitchen. All I have to do is put it away. Just need top up fruit and veg.......Brilliant!!

A week ago today, we went out for our evening meal. emoticon Since we were going to be out anyway, we decided that after our meal, we would pick a few items up at our local 24/7 Albertson's. That was in order to save having to do out on Tuesday midday, after Bible study - my normal weekly stop in at Albertson's. I was struck by two things during our seven on the emoticon "adventure in shopping" --- (1) all the young & new to us faces of employees - obviously the "old timer" employees are not expected to work weekends --- (2) how uncrowded the store was at that time on a Saturday evening. I rather liked the experience; however, I much rather shop during daylight hours.

One local store, where my beloved MrV does most of our shopping, has recently decided to close their doors from 11pm until 6am. We never shopped those hours; however, my MrV was curious about that decision &, when he asked, he was told that they were actually losing money by staying opened. One might assume that there was just not the business to justify running the store during those hours; however, the "fella" he was talking with went on to explain that the loss came from people shoplifting during those hours. emoticon He said that they were losing more to shoplifters than the profit they were taking in from honest customers. Boy! I would never have thought such a thing would be the case.

It was sweet of your son to suggest that idea & it is good you gave that suggestion a try, so now you know it did not work well for y'all. We each have to find what works best for us.

    God bless!

I kid you not on this. One year, the ENTIRE year, it RAINED EVERY OTHER. TUESDAY. Tuesdays were our paydays back then and every single pay we went grocery shopping and every single shopping trip was a rainy day. Isn't that WEIRD?

    Old age story.
#1. Back 15 yrs ago when one of my daughters was newborn, we went to a Chucky Cheese restaurant with the our (then) 6 kids. The infant was in a car seat and my husband, who would have been 33 was at the booth with her. A gentleman came up and asked, "Is she your granddaughter?"
(my hubby prematurely grayed) Too funny.
    emoticon

#2. One year, about the same time, actually, we all went to my brother-in-law's 40th b-day party. He answered the door with spray-painted gray hair, a Mr. Rogers Sweater and slippers, trying to be amusing.
Well, we ordered pizza and he and my hubby went to pick it up. MEANWHILE...we ladies decided to call the pizza shop and have wish my brother in law a HAPPY BIRTHDAY. My sister said, "He'll be the one with the spray-painted hair."
When the guys came home, they looked rather SHEEPISH.
They had arrived at the pizza shop and the employees wished MY HUSBAND (who is 6 years YOUNGER) a Happy birthday!!!!!
hahaha they thought HE had spray painted his hair!
    emoticon emoticon

#3 This one is .....not so funny. ;)
I was shopping a several years ago with my 4 daughters at a small bathing suit shop. I was 43, my eldest daughter was 16, and my other three were 10, 6, and almost 5.
The shopkeeper thought my SIXTEEN year old was the MOTHER of the 3 younger girls....and 'I' was the GRANDMA!!!!!
    And I had ZERO gray!
    speechless.

    I couldn't help having a giggle.
I have learned long ago, if I need something at the store,I get it,
I have no regular day for shopping. A Friday night? never.
    A nice Tuesday afternoon? maybe?

I still think you look great.

I don't feel my age so much--but I sure do see it when I look in the mirror!

I bet the lady was just looking for an excuse to stand up for a bit.

Night grocery shopping has never appealed to me. I prefer getting the grocery shopping done during the day.You did get much accomplished yesterday, before you hit the store in the evening.

You're only as old as you feel - today I feel old but maybe I won't tomorrow. With all you do every day, you prove that you're not old. As long as you keep moving you'll stay younger than a sedentary person. It keeps your brain younger too. emoticon emoticon emoticon

I know how you feel about not able to get what you want or need. I had to go back to the drugstore three times this week alone to get meds and other items. Still missing one med. Todays a new day so we all start from the beginning because each day is a new one.

Anyone at any age would be tired after days like you have as cleaning lady, laundress, dog walker, landscaper, grass mower, cook, big dog walker (dogs, not you), babysitter, wife, mother, grandmom, cheerleader, shouter so himself can hear you maybe..... Whew, OK, I feel old and tired just typing it all out! You rock and don't you ever forget it!

emoticon Friday after work is the busiest time at our grocery stores. I had I job where I worked 4 ten hour days and found if I went on Friday mornings the stores weren't crowded and everything was stocked.

Doesn't sound like Friday night's a good night . . . will the "stock boys" tell you when the shelves are mostly likely full?

I LOATHE grocery shopping any time of the week: there's a real danged I might lose it and bite somebody who rams into my rear end with a cart while chatting on his/her cell phone!!!
