And--it happens all the time!-
"'Lord love a Duck", was a favourite expression of hers---
I never ever heard my Mom swear, so perhaps that was a replacement!
We knew she really wasn't angry when she used expressions, such as those!
In fact, when she WAS angry, we knew it too, because she would repeat our entire name, and very loud!
"Cold as Bilio"----"Dark as the Ace of Spades"---"Slow as Methusiah"----
I never knew the meaning of these expressions, but I could always relate.
We only had a dessert in the house, if it was homemade---There were always plenty of oranges and bushels of apples, with healthy vegetables, mostly home grown.
I realize now that these are probably good reasons that we eat much the same way to-day-
We also had cats , and dogs---probably why to this day, Himself , living with me, has to live with the Germans .
Memories--I suppose they make us what we are to-day---
Lord love a Duck!----I remember that I used to sneak ice cream, from the downstairs freezer---Praise be to Spark for helping me crush that bad habit!
