Why are people so hateful?

Thursday, December 22, 2016

I generally don't get into political stuff on Facebook, but tonight I responded to a post on someone's page--a person I've known all my life. I made sure I wasn't name calling, putting anyone down, or being disrespectful because I don't treat people that way. I was told I was an effing liberal, disillusioned, and needed to get the blinders off. Then, he added "build the wall!!" which really bothered me, because I'm half Mexican. So, I unfriended him and told him why. I see the aftermath of this election in what has happened to many of my students and their families--being spit on for wearing a hijab, being called terrorists, being afraid of their families being broken up--This election has brought out the worst in a lot of people, and I'm getting tired of 'we won, get over it'. No one is going to win if things keep going crazy.

Rant over. I'm sure there are a lot of people here who don't agree with me either, but at least I won't be called nasty names.

Merry Christmas, Happy Hanukkah, Merry Solstice....

I agree with you. I have been anxious enough that it has started to affect my health.
But I am turning that around even though I can't stand what is going on. But we have to live in it.
I would prefer to thrive. But in order to thrive, I have to first survive.
And these hateful people are not going to take away what I have left to live of my life. I just try to stay away from all of it as much as I can and build myself up in a positive way. Thank God for Spark.

emoticon this election has brought out more hate world wide than anything I have known in my life but people need to just keep their thoughts to themselves and not share in a public forums.

I have removed a lot of friends and most likely will remove a lot more as time goes on.

just remember.. it is their thought

Yeah, I am not a fan of political rants on FB.I am sorry your friend was so rude :(. I like when people of differing views can discuss things calmly in person. I voted for Hilary and can't really classify myself as a pure Democrat or definitely not Republican. I lean more liberal, but voted for republicans here and there. I was upset when Trump won, but I do think it forced me to look outside my bubble. I get frustrated when people say all Trump supporters are racist or this or that. There are a bunch of people who voted for Obama who then voted Trump and I think in order to win back these people we can't just assume all sorts of negative things about them. Saturday Night Live did 2 hilarious sketches about those of us who live in a bubble and had our bubble burst. Sorry to ramble.

Consider the other viewpoint....everyone feels so righteous in their anger :( Where's the love and compassion?

I'm sorry that happened. There's no discussions or conversation happening anymore. It's not just the conservatives or the liberals...I have "friends" on both sides who default to the lowest levels of name calling instead of even pretending to consid

I've seen loads of this too all on Facebook people who are friends calling names, pointing fingers and spreading hate and upset-so sick of it and yes those who are conservative really really go after any of us who are liberals. Both choices were bad.
