It's the Little Things...

Weight loss is not easy. It's hard work. It takes continued motivation and commitment to reach your goals. Not just the goal of reaching that magic number but sticking with it for every milestone no matter how small. It's never giving up despite setbacks. It's believing you can manage your eating habits while everyone else around you seems to be reaching for that chocolate covered pretzel, the hot fudge sundae, the extra large serving of French fries, the third slice of pepperoni pizza. Sometimes, it's overwhelming.

Along the way, little things have kept me going. Tightening a belt loop, fitting into a smaller size pair of pants, no chest gap in my button down shirts when they used to be too tight.
Yet despite all this I still felt that my old fat self was just lurking around the corner ready and waiting to make a quick comeback.

All those little things that kept me going made me realize my healthy lifestyle changes are making a difference. Sure I was happy with all the little things along the way but today it really hit home and I could actually see it.

I had to go to the DMV to have my Driver's License Renewal photo taken. I've always dreaded this day. Stuck with another horrible photo for 5 years. I was resigned to the fact that it would be more of the same. But imagine my surprise when the service rep showed me my photo. I had to do a double take - was that me? When he asked if that image was okay, I told him I had lost nearly 40 pounds and this is first picture in a long time that I was actually happy with.

That picture is a little thing but it represents a BIG part of who I am now - a dedicated Sparker, not just thinking about but actually doing my daily fitness and food tracking. Sure, I go off sometimes but, so far, I have always circled around and come back to healthful choices.

So here's to the little things that make a tough weight loss journey a little easier and keep me going with a can-do, never give up attitude that will ultimately allow me to reach my long term goal and maintain a healthful lifestyle long into the future. I'll remember that every time I open my wallet and look at that photo!

    Inspirational! So sorry I didn't catch your fine message earlier, Emerald friend. Many days I am still at that stage you identify, of "thinking about but not actually doing my daily fitness." But your determined attitude, along with a recent message from a Spark friend--It was you! -- are keeping me encouraged. Blessings emoticon
