so sad!

Tuesday, January 24, 2017

Well, I'm not an overly religious person----but---(that big "butt"-)---there must be a reason for this---
The blood test for the recycled cat, came back--positive----for some kind of bad cat disease---The vet describes the disease as "Aids" for a cat--which means the poor animal is doomed to get all kinds of bad stuff!--I know that she will have to be "put down"--
I also know it is for the best--
I was awake all night---
Because even when you know all this, and you know what has to be done, it is hard to accept--
The vet says she has picked this up from living out in the wild---probably from a wild animal who bit her---like the lynx--(that's my thought--not the vets)-
So, Himself and I will drive to the next town----to our own vet, and pay her to do the dastardly deed--
Sometimes life is very hard!
I will hug my Germans more--

I am very sad!

So sorry for the bad news on Sushi. But at least she knew love and you loved her. Maybe that was part of the plan.

So sad to hear about Sushi. If she had FIV (Feline AIDS), it could be that her digestive problems were because she was in the late stages of AIDS syndrome, in which case nothing will really help and there is no choice but euthanasia. So it was a hard decision, but the right one. What a sad outcome. At least she was warm, safe and not hungry for the last bit of her life. Please don't think that all FIV positive cats must be euthanized as soon as they are diagnosed as positive. I have a house cat who has been FIV + for over 6 years and he is hale and hearty. I know that he could become ill at some point, but for now he (and his constant kitty companion, who has remained FIV negative for the past 6 years) is living a wonderful, happy, healthy life.

So sorry to hear this news. I had the same thing happen a few years ago. I adopted a stray but kept it in the garage because I had another house cat and didn't want him to get sick if something was wrong with the stray. I had the stray checked and it had feline leukemia. I was very sad but had to do what was right for the stray and any other cats she might come in contact with. It was hard.

I am in tears! HOw all of your Sparkly friends have come to love Sushi! My heart goes out to you and to her! And, yes, even to Himself because even if he doesn't show it, I believe he fell in love with that cat you brought in from the cold! Check with your vet and see. Seems like others suggest the poor sweet kitty is not doomed! Hugs to all involved! I'll even put up with some Sushi bites and scratches!

Poor thing, I guess it is better to take care of this now than have her suffer. It is so hard, even when you don't have the same attachment like with your pups. Hugs.

It is very sad about the cat but, I'm just happy that you kept her protected from the germans only because if they had attacked her or she attacked them she could have spread the disease to them. So sorry for your loss Lynda. emoticon

Oh Lynda, I am so, so very sorry! This is too sad. Is there a way you can take care of her and manage the FIV? Perhaps there is another solution than the radical one you are considering...

I am so sorry your good deed has ended with sadness. Yes, I know how hard that ride to the vet is but better than letting the disease progress. Been there too many times and say never again, then find myself there again, can't live without a dog. Hugs to you, you are doing what is best for her. emoticon

I agree with some other posters here.
Was the blood work done at your regular vet or somewhere else? If it wasn't your regular vet, I think I would get a second opinion and maybe more information about the disease from your regular vet.

    Poor Sushi.

I am so sorry Lynda, I know you are heartbroken. May I make a suggestion, have the vet send your vet a copy of Sushi's blood test, before you take her to be "put down". Many cats live long happy lives with this disease, but they shouldn't be in a home with cats that don't have the disease.

Your own vet may have a different opinion and if she agrees with the first vet. You will know that you are doing Sushi her one last kindness. No matter what, you have shown her what it is to be loved.

Aw poor Sushi. At least she had weeks of love and care at your place and you will be able to see her away peacefully rather than the painful death she probably would have had in the wild.

I had to put down the cat I loved more than any other cat I ever had. He had feline herpes. We suppose he contracted it while having a teeth cleaning at the vet's because he never went outside and no other cats came inside. I posted the link, and hope that you can look it up if it doesn't work. I looked up feline AIDS. It states that some cats live a long time without symptoms, some get various symptoms and can waste away.

This is so sad for Sushi and for you and your husband. I am so grateful that you had each other for a time. Loving anything living can end in death. Sending you hugs as you go through this. God bless you for taking her in and taking care of her.

Amazing how quickly the adopted one takes a piece of your heart. So kind of you to take Sushi in. Best cat name ever. Unfortunately the outcome for FIP or feluke positive cats is not good. Having pets is such a joy, I can not imagine life without them. Occasionally it becomes a duty to do the right thing for the pet. This is the hard part. It can break your heart. After 4 cats, 2 turtles, 1 rat, 1 beaver pup, 1 squirrel pup, 1 West Highland White Terrier, and 8 Whippets ( not all at once) been there myself. Hope for the best. Prepare for the worst. Sushi is lucky to have found you.
