January 30, 2017 OUT OF CONTROL
We have seen people get out of control. Regarding emotions, they overreact about the smallest things. With food, they eat more than the need to. With regard to money, they spend too much and live beyond their means. Whatever the reason for being out of control, these people are searching for something. They are looking for more in life and trying to fill a void. That void should be filled by Jesus. If we have Jesus in our hearts, spend daily time with Him and take time to read and meditate on His word, He will help us to stay in control of all areas of our lives.
Romans 8:9a "But you are not controlled by your sinful nature. You are controlled by the Spirit if you have the Spirit of God living in you." (NLT)
1. Write down how you lose control.
2. List the things you feel are out of control in your life.
3. Ask God to take control and fill you with His Holy Spirit.
4. Trust in Him give you peace and keep you focused on Him.
Dear Lord, help us not get out of control. We sometimes spend too much money. We sometimes eat more than we should. We sometimes let our emotions make us crazy. Help us, Lord, to not get out of control but to allow You to control us. We need the Holy Spirit in us to keep us on the right track. We want to obey You and turn away from the sin that gets us out of control. We trust in You to show us Your way. In Jesus' name. Amen.
Those who get out of control in any area of their lives are not just hurting themselves; they are hurting others as well.
When we handle our finances as we should, God knows we can be trusted with the true riches of Heaven.
Luke 16:11 "And if you are untrustworthy about worldly wealth, who will trust you with the true riches of heaven?" (NLT)
Getting out of control shows others we are not focused on God.
God can help us stay in control when we allow the Holy Spirit to remain in us.
Exodus 32:25 "Moses saw that Aaron had let the people get completely out of control, much to the amusement of their enemies." (NLT)
When we get out of control, Satan is thrilled and amused.
