February 3, 2017 EXCESS

If we want to obey God and do His will, we need to get rid of the excess in our lives. Where we have too many things, give some away. Where we eat too much wrong foods, start cutting back. Where we spend too much money, begin with a plan. When we have excess in anything it keeps us from doing God’s will because that excess is always in the way. We should really look at our lives and see where we spend the most money and time and ask God how we can better live for Him and know His will. We should love Him and seek His will with all we have and in all we do.

SCRIPTURE:
Deuteronomy 6:4-5 “Listen, O Israel! The Lord is our God, the Lord alone. And you must love the Lord your God with all your heart, all your soul, and all your strength.” (NLT)

ACTION STEPS:
1. Write down what you do in excess.
2. List the things you have an excess of.
3. Know God wants you to put Him first.
4. Ask Him how you can better live for Him.

PRAYER:
Dear Lord, we know You tell us to put You first in all we do. We know the excess we have and the things we are addicted to can get in the way of us focusing on You. Help us today, Lord, to seek You in all things. Reveal to us what we need to stop doing or get rid of in our lives. We don’t want to be obsessed with anything but You. In Jesus’ name. Amen.

REMEMBER:
We should love God and seek His will with all we have and in all we do.

We shouldn’t be obsessed with anything or anyone but God.

When we are too focused on what we have, we can’t be focused on God.

When we are addicted to something or have an excess of things in our lives, we will be distracted from doing God’s will.

God doesn’t want us to be obsessed with the things of the world and have excess worldly things that distract us from His will.

FOCUS:
Ezekiel 20:7b “Each of you, get rid of the vile images you are so obsessed with.” (NLT)

We are to get rid of what is causing us to lose focus on doing God’s will.
