"Begin each day with a Grateful Heart"

I was riding the train, and I struck up a conversation with a gentleman. We made general conversation. I asked if he was heading downtown still just making general conversation. He told me that he was visiting his wife in hospice care. She had a stroke 3 years ago and never fully recovered. She spoke with him and told him that she was going to Jesus soon. The man then had tears run down his face, and said that was on his way to visit his beloved wife. He then began to apologize to me for his emotions. I don't hide emotions well so this made me cry too. I told him I was honored to hear his story and wish him a good visit with his wife in her last moments.

This really made me think how precious life is. We have no idea what others are going through and carrying with them.

Even though I have a lot going on, I need to stop and be grateful for my wonderful husband, five beautiful daughters, my granddaughter, and everyone in my life. So, today and always I want to begin each day with an open and grateful heart.

Thank you for sharing your tears with him, and being real with him. Your vulnerability in opening up your emotions validated him, his painful situation. May the Lord bless you for your kindness in listening and sharing in his suffering. I love working with people dealing with end of life situations. It is very rewarding. I miss working as a hospice and palliative care nurse; it was the most rewarding aspect of my professional life. I am unable to do that work except on a volunteer basis among family and friends after an on the job injury. Periodically God sends folks my way and I get to be his hands and minister to them. He uses whoever is available, and you were that blessed one on the train. Thanks again.

Great blog. Better story. It's so true,I'm guilty of this also, I tend to complain about stuff that's really not that relevant. Thanks for sharing this with everyone.
