Waiting at the Pharmacy

Friday, March 10, 2017

Spent most of the morning driving to, getting Med's to take and driving from VA Pharmacy. Then finding a parking spot. Then walking into the Pharmacy. Then taking a number and waiting till that number was called to see the pharmacist. Then take another number and wait for my number and name to appear on the board - meaning my prescription is filled and I could pick it up. Then walking back to my parked car and going home. The drive over is 45 minutes. The waiting in the Pharmacy to turn in script was about a little less than hour then another 50 minute to get Meds filled. Then another 45 minutes drive home. So just getting my prescriptions to take after yesterday's oral surgery took most of my entire morning. Cannot drive taking the pain killer - so I got a few groceries before coming home and taking it.

I agree that the VA should find a better more efficient way to do it. My first suggestion would be with all the patients waiting have more than one turn in Pharmacist and more than 1 fulfillment Pharmacists. But nothing changes

That's absurd. No one should have to wait that long for medicine!

This has not changed much in 24 years. Yet there has to be a better way to handle outpatient Pharmacy that is faster and more efficiency. Only 1 turn in pharmacist and 1 pharmacists in the fulfillment area.
