Recent changes bugging you? Put it in perspective.

NEWS FLASH: SparkPeople continues to serve as a fount of information, support, accountability and inspiration.

I joined SP so I could track my food, track my exercise and track my weight. All of these are still prominent features even after the most recent "earthshaking" changes.

When I learned there were thousands of free exercise videos and informational/inspirational articles I was thrilled. These are the features that hooked me and kept me from switching to some other tracking site and these features are still here.

When I discovered teams, I discovered support and accountability I did not expect when I signed on. With millions of users, reading all the feeds and posts was sort of like walking down the streets of downtown Chicago and trying to connect with one person in the throng. Teams broke down the millions of Sparkers into groups I could relate to, and have been an integral part of my success. Teams are still here.

Over my mere four years here, there have been changes to SparkPeople's presentation (some I like, some I don't), but never changes to the core features that brought me here. People may call me passive for not making a big deal over the few things I miss with each revamp. People may call me resistant to change for not engaging more fully in the social media aspect of the site. But no one will ever call me ungrateful for the heart and soul of SparkPeople and the good folks who make it live so that we all have the best opportunity to succeed.

People seem quite upset by the removal of the team points feature. I used this. I liked this. However, that few seconds of daily amusement was such an infinitesimal part of my life, I cannot justify a reaction beyond "Oh. Bummer." When you put it all in perspective, I am still getting everything I came for and more.

Well said. For me it doesn't make much difference. I can still access all the things I use and enjoy and I am truly appreciative of all that Spark offers.

I am so grateful for your blog. I feel the same way. When SP changed our personal Spark pages, I was very upset. I even had a quick thought about quitting. Then I realized I wouldn't be hurting anyone but myself if I did that. I worked way to hard to get where I was just to give it up for such a minuscule reason. And low and behold, I don't even remember what our Spark pages looked like before the change. I'm sure the same thing will happen with the Start page. I'm not fond of the changes, but that's only because it's a change. Just like the Spark page change, soon the changes will be old hat and we won't even think about it. I still love Spark People. emoticon emoticon

I was really freaked out at first just as many others regarding the recent change to our Start pages, but when all is said and done - let's not sweat the small stuff emoticon

Very well stated. I was startled at first by the change, and even posted some of my concerns on the message boards, but I soon realized that everything I needed was still there on the right hand side as well as through the tabs at the top of every page.

I used to spin for team points daily. I enjoyed seeing what would pop up although some days I felt bad that the majority of my points weren't due to any healthy choices on my part, just a bunch of lucky spins.

However, as you say, that was a small part of why I'm here. The core features that helped me succeed are still there.

While I'm not a big social media person, I've come to like seeing the before and after photos that are being shown by people that I have never met. Just because they are not my current friends doesn't mean I can't be motivated by them. My current friends were once unknown to me as well.
