Just be kind and brave. I turned 44 yesterday. My 9 year old son woke me up with two hand-drawn pictures and said Happy Birthday Mom. While getting my free starbucks birthday coffee he told me to take the first sip before he drank his smoothie. My 21 year old daughter had lovely flowers in a vase on the dining room table. My husband (as the divorce never did go through) went to a restaurant twice to pick up items so that my eldest daughter (25) could save money on the meal. All my siblings called me and left messages. My mother gave me a nice check so that I had money in my bank account. My mother-in-law was the first to wish me happy birthday by text.

Just be kind and brave has been a theme for me for the past 7 years. Being kind allowed many blessings to occur in my life. In 2010 my husband (thought he was my ex, but in the end apparently not) had hit a bottom and was in jail for a white collar crime. I was instructed by my higher power to be kind. I had to also be brave...our family endured some hardships through that whole process.

The quote from Joseph Campbell is one of my most cherished: Take one step towards God and he takes 10 steps toward you (improvised by myself). That is truth. Just being willing to do the brave thing...taking that first step in the kindest direction...will pay you back 10 times over in the long run.

It took me some time to get here. In 44 years you get to see how your choices play out. The choices I made being unkind and cowardly did not result in growth. The choices I made in being kind and brave have been my greatest rewards and expanded me spiritually in ways I never knew possible. day at a time...and make the highest choice in the moment (Beverly Deangelou) (sp)
