Derailed but not defeated

Losing weight, rather the process of, is never easy. I have derailed. The train has left the tracks. Where are the tracks? I know they must be around the corner somewhere. Life is so busy this time of year with two kids in softball, homework, gym, errands, trying and failing miserably to keep the house clean and eating well fell the wayside. A 4 pound gain last week due to PMS (hopefully, but maybe not?) certainly didn't help the frame of mind however this is what always causes me to fail. All the reasons listed above and this time I refuse to let it happen. I will find the tracks (pretty sure they are only inches away if I look hard enough). I will get myself back on them and I will succeed. I refuse to let my hard work fall over the embankment due to a few hiccups along the way. I am derailed but not defeated, and I'm not giving up on this train yet

I so needed to read this TODAY! Yesterday, after 4 months, I decided to put all excuses behind (too sleepy in the morning, too tired at night after bedtime routine for my 6yr old, too much work, too many errands, what's the point? etc!) No more. Today I woke up earlier, left everything ready last night and started my cardio circuit!! Almost stopped when there were only 9 min remaining, drank a little water and pushed through! That accomplishment feeling is priceless! I'm not giving up on myself! Thank you for sharing this! Keep it up everyone!

Thank you for sharing. I can relate to that feeling of being overwhelmed! I am just taking it one day at a time and one pound at a time. That is the only way that I can do it now without feeling overwhelmed by the daunting number on the scale of lbs that I still have to lose. Tracking my food has really helped me stay accountable, so with that, I AM learning how to make healthier choices on the day that I just have to have that indulgence to help me feel better :) Hang in there, and if you have to use the 1 lb at a time to help you find your way back on to the tracks, trust me, it works! Best of luck to you, I'm rootin' for you! :)

I am so thankful for this blog and it popped up at the exact right time. I have had a super busy week and not been able to exercise like I usually do and too be honest have indulged in way too many unhealthy foods. However, this blog made me not want to give up, which I would usually do and just go back to my bad habits. I will now look at life as I am derailed, not defeated! thank you so much for these wonderful words!

Can you put aside some time and leave the kids to your spouse, and use that time to fix some healthy meals for the freezer? Then you can just pop one out and eat right at the appointed times. I find myself doing that and it helps. I don't always have time to lay out all the ingredients, chop, stir, etc. but we always need healthy meals. So when I have time, I make extra and freeze it for the times I don't.

Best of luck with your goal.

    You GO girl.

I believe that busy people can always do one more thing. And actually you can do your one more thing while you are doing all those other things. Healthy living, for me, is so much of a "head thing." More than it is finding the time. Doing housework burns those calories so you do two things at once. Don't have to join a gym which takes time every time you visit. Take your kids for a 10 minute walk. Does lots more than burn calories.

If my mind is in the right place, I am motivated and will do those little things that make my train tracks come to me.

Have a great day being motivated. It doesn't take but a second to get there and just being on that train erases all of those feelings that we have when we off those darn tracks. emoticon

emoticon NO, you're not derailed. The fact that you're looking for the tracks shows that you are definitely focused. Your blog is so inspiring and not only is it good for you but you are inspiring so many of us SPers. I had out patient surgery Tuesday. Yesterday the anesthesia was still wearing off and while I consumed my 8 glasses of water, I could not control my food intake, but this morning I'm right back and continuing my 31st day streak just as if I had not overeaten yesterday ( I just chopped it up to the anesthesia)! But his is not about me, its about how remarkable " YOU" are. With all of your daily task, maybe you could try rising just 15 mins early every morning for "me" time and organize your schedule for the day to include your strategies for staying on the tracks. I'm trying it and it seems to work. emoticon

Thanks for sharing your story of reality. I'm a little derailed right now too and need to get back on the tracks. My excuse is physical limitation of one leg, but I know it is temporary and don't want to be set back too far when I'm back to normal. . emoticon emoticon

I have been involved with Spark People for 3 1/2 weeks, and exercising on my own for 6 weeks, and no soda for 6 weeks. I know that this is a challenge for me to get from 175 emoticon pounds to 125 pounds, but I am determined this will happen.

It happens! I don't think there is anyone on Spark who hasn't derailed multiple times. Sounds like you are jammed for time and overwhelmed. It will be hard to stay on track until you enlist some help from your family to help you keep things in order, in your house especially. My other thought is think ahead, e.g., look at May and figure out what will be happening then talk to your family about how you all will tackle the busy times, special events, etc. Good luck!

WOW! You struck a chord with a LOT of people!! You WILL get back on track and you are not going to give up. That is the real secret "never, never, never give up" on YOU. Each time we put ourselves back on the track, even if we have to do it in small steps, we learn, we become more tenacious and tenacity will get you to your goals and to a healthy life.
So glad you are going for it!!
