I have been asked by quite a few people to give a more in depth report on my 7 month old grand-daughter Gabriella's last trip to Miami Children's Hospital. Last Thursday, I helped Nora with her monthly trip to MCH, and kept Lina occupied while the doctor checked out Gabby. What an adventure it was!
The Good News:
Gabby has hydrocephalus, and after 2 surgeries on her brain, is doing well. The shunt is draining the extra fluid properly, and her body is adjusting well. She is on her way to good health.
The next two months are going to require diligence! Gabby has a compromised immune system, and keeping her healthy is imperative! Also, she must not bump her head, so learning to crawl is a tricky process. Gabby's motor skills are behind, and does not yet get up into the crawling position. For now, that's a good thing. Her muscle tone is low. She is going to start with Early Intervention soon.
This Grandma's job is to love and support my family while my son and DIL figure out the difficult details of raising an active 3 year old and caring for a baby with a medically fragile condition. We laughed, sang silly songs, and enjoyed the adventure while the adults figured out the serious side of the trip.
Thank you for your continued prayers for our little angel, Gabriella.
