Good news ?

I had my orthopedic evaluation on Tuesday.
No real surprises, but a new conclusion. Let
me say that if I haven't ever said so here, I
was dead set against having surgery. I am
"too old and sick" to risk it.
Well, in the last few months, I have steadily
been in more pain, less mobility, and even
worse, getting into and out of chairs It has
defiantly gotten harder has contributed to
I like the doctor, much more personable than
most surgeons. I asked him if he ever does
both knees at the same time. He said yes
but didn't recommend it, so ..
Both knees are bone on bone, the left has
started to wear thru the tibia (shin bone),
all three compartments are totally gone in
New conclusion is: Total knee replacement
for both. This scares me a lot, but I don't
want to go into a wheel chair or worse,
which he told me I was close.
My surgery on the left knee is scheduled for
May 8th. The other will be done a soon as I
can after that. We are moving a lot of boxes
of books and extra furniture so I can use the
walker to get around.
My goal for the next 3 weeks is to buckle down
and try to lose 10 lb. The info I have found is that
losing even 10 lbs is better for recovery. I wasn't
expecting this or I would have started earlier. I will
also be getting back on all my vits and supplements
to build my body and immune system up. I plan to get
plenty of sleep and maybe some stretching done.
My gratitude for tonight is that I have such a great
son who is supporting me during this time, from Korea.
