May 10, 2017 STRETCH OUR MINDS

We all have heard about how stretching our bodies daily can be very beneficial to our health. Stretching our bodies helps our balance, our mood, our alertness and our physical well-being. Stretching also helps our bodies to be more flexible and better able to handle stress. We also should stretch our minds. If we leave our minds stagnant without training anything new, we will soon get bored, depressed and lack motivation to do what we need to do. Reading God’s word daily, meditating on it and applying it to our lives will stretch our minds and teach us how to stay motivated and do God’s will.

SCRIPTURE:
Romans 12:2 “Don’t copy the behavior and customs of this world, but let God transform you into a new person by changing the way you think. Then you will learn to know God’s will for you, which is good and pleasing and perfect.” (NLT)

Philippians 4:8 “Finally, brothers, whatever is true, whatever is honorable, whatever is just, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is commendable, if there is any excellence, if there is anything worthy of praise, think about these things.” (NEV)

ACTION STEPS:
1. Write down how you stretch your mind.
2. List things you have learned from God.
3. Pray and read God’s word daily.
4. Trust in Him to help you train in His word.

PRAYER:
Dear Lord, we know You want us to strive to keep our minds cluttered from the things of the world. We know You want us to stay focused on You and Your word so our minds are free from things that are not lovely and pure and honorable. Help us today and everyday to focus on You and Your word and Your will. Show us what we can learn that will help us and others to live better lives for You. In Jesus’ name. Amen.

REMEMBER:
We can renew our minds by showing gratitude to God every day.

When we train our brains to focus on Jesus, He will help us to stay motivated in doing God’s will.

2 Corinthians 5:17 “This means that anyone who belongs to Christ has become a new person. The old life is gone; a new life has begun!” (NLT)

When we belong to Jesus, our old self is gone and we are made new.

We are to never give up learning and teaching God’s word.

FOCUS:
2 Corinthians 4:16 “That is why we never give up. Though our bodies are dying, our spirits are being renewed every day.” (NLT)

God’s Holy Spirit can renew us daily and show us how to stretch our minds to learn more and more about God.
