May 11, 2017 TRAIN TO ENCOURAGE
We probably don’t know anyone who wants to hear discouraging words all the time. We possibly have friends who don’t mean to but tend to speak down to us and discourage us with their word. They may be talking bad about themselves, others or even us. Eventually those discouraging words will rub off on us and cause us to be discouraged as well. The good news is we don’t have to listen. We can choose to walk away or interrupt the speaker and counter offer some encouraging words. When we train ourselves and others to encourage rather than discourage, we are doing God’s will and He will help us.
1 Thessalonians 5:11 “So encourage each other and build each other up, just as you are already doing.” (NLT)
1. Write some encouraging words from God’s word.
2. List some promises He has made to us.
3. Prepare your minds to talk with those who discourage others.
4. Use God’s word to encourage others and pray for them.
Dear Lord, we want to be people who are encouraging to others. We want to learn from Your word on how to encourage others and pray for them. We know Your word is encouraging because of all the promises and hope and love in it. We know we can find encouragement in Your word and share that with others. Help us today to be bold and help those who discourage others reminding them of all the things we have to be grateful about. In Jesus’ name. Amen.
We are to prepare our minds with God’s word so we can reach out and encourage others.
God wants us to be encouragers with His word especially when someone is down and out.
God has an answer for every situation. We can find that answer in His word and share it with those who are discouraged.
When we train ourselves and others to encourage rather than discourage, we are doing God’s will and He will help us.
When we have faith in God and pray, He will give us the right encouraging words to share with others.
Jude 1:20 “But you, dear friends, must build each other up in your most holy faith, pray in the power of the Holy Spirit” (NLT)
Encouraging others with God’s word and praying for them are two things we should be doing daily.
