When given a choice between a party & a cruise, Charlie picked a cruise to celebrate his birthday. I knew he would. He does not like attention.
We started with a night in Fort Lauderdale the night before the cruise. We planned on getting in some more of our 52 hikes for the challenge that we joined.
Hike #7/52 was a peaceful Sunset hike around the hotel area.
We got a transfer to the ship & had no problems at all with check-in. Our cabin was great. We got a free upgrade when booking & had an ocean view cabin. After a full day at sea, our first port of call was in Grand Turk. We have been there before, but have always done things on the water. We took a tour of the Island and had time to take a hike on the beach.
Hike #8/52 was on the beach with wild donkeys which roam free all over the Island.
Our next port of call was The Dominican Republic. We hiked in an awesome urban area called Altos De Chavon. It was all built in the 1970's & 80's but made to look centuries old. Such beautiful buildings! It is now used as a college for the arts.
Hike #9/52 This is the church.
We also took a river cruise.
The next port of call was the reason we chose this cruise. We had never been to Aruba!
So strange to have an Island that hardly gets any rain. Lots of rocks and Cacti and beautiful coastlines.
Hike #10/52 was near the Casibari Rock Formation. We also saw the ruins of a natural bridge and the new baby bridge that started very near the old one.
The last port of call was Curacau. We had never been there before either. We went to Aldea, a Rain Forest theme park. They had all kinds of birds and animals. It was interesting!
It was a lot of walking, so we counted it as Hike #11/52.
Overall it was a great trip! It only sprinkled one day all week. It rained everyday at home while we were gone and is still raining! I really enjoyed the warm weather and sunshine. Hope it stops raining soon so that we can get some more hiking in.
No problem at all getting in over 10,000 steps everyday until the last day when I got sick. Flew home with a head cold and I am still recovering.
