Continuing with my Mexican Adventures... Here is an entry from my Journal
Today we are deep in the Lacandon Rain Forest in Chiapas, Mexico. We arrived at our Hotel after dark yesterday, but the bugs were big enough to see with no problem :) I observed large black ants marching across the sidewalk carrying small leaves. It was quite fascinating to see them working together getting a job done. There was also a small outside light by the door to our room and the moths which were as big as my palm were abundant.
This morning, we journeyed to the river, walked over boards on a sandy river bar and then boarded a canoe type boat. The boat had a thatched canopy held up with bent tree limbs.
We traveled up the Usumacinta River (which is on the border with Guatemala) to the Yaxichilan Ruins. The only access to this Park with these Mayan ruins is by boat.
There were very few people at the park and it was pristine. Again, we heard monkeys in the trees "roaring" as we hiked through the jungle.
After spending time at the ruins, we journeyed back to our hotel and then drove to Palenque for the night. We are now at a fabulous hotel that has air conditioning. Hooray!
