Summer Goals & Reflections on my Current Lifestyle

Wednesday, July 12, 2017

Hi everyone! emoticon

As usual, this summer has been passing by super quick! My garden is getting larger now because of all of the sun & rain! Even though summer just started a few weeks ago, July is almost halfway over! There is still a lot planned for me this year vacation wise! We are going to Cape Cod next month for a family vacation. Then we are going to Puerto Rico and Anaheim, CA in the fall! It is really fun knowing we are doing all of these things as a married couple. I can't believe it has been over a year now since we got married.

Even though I am very excited for those big trips, my Birthday comes first! I will be 32 years old, ahh!! I took off tomorrow & Friday so I can have a 4 day weekend. I am a bit bummed because I wanted to go to the zoo on Friday with my Husband and some friends. The weather is calling for Thunderstorms all day Friday!! I will have to find some other way to celebrate. I also want to visit the Vietnam Traveling Wall. It is being setup today and tomorrow and available to view Friday through Sunday. My Dad is a Vietnam vet, so I want to take him to see the replica wall. It will be an emotional experience for everyone. I don’t think he ever saw the full size Vietnam Memorial at Washington, DC.

There are a lot of things I would like to do locally this summer/fall besides the big trips. I’d like to go to some local gardens and a few more parks. There are a lot of things in this area to see! It is also tough to plan these things when there are a bunch of home projects I want to do as well. I need to sit down and create another To Do list. I have been better lately with working out & eating better at least. I am happy I am doing more. Tax season really gets me down, buy my two workout buddies have been helping me get back to being Myself.

I have been using the nutrition tracker almost every day. I have been at least using it for breakfast & lunch every day (especially when I am working.) I like to plan out what I am going to eat for the day so I can see how much I still have available to eat for dinner. I used to plan my dinner even though I wasn’t exactly sure what I was going to have for lunch. Now if I eat a bit more for lunch, I try to cut out the bread with dinner. I am trying to get less than 1500 calories a day, but I am not mad at myself if I go over.

I’ve lived this lifestyle for so long, and I know how I am. I go through spurts of saying No to every “bad” food. Then I get tired of having no cheese and want to have it on everything. Although it is all a mental battle, I try my best to satisfy my cravings while still making healthy choices. We all know how difficult it is to eat right when there are so many temptations everywhere: Parties, Snacks, Co-workers, Vacations, Restaurants etc.

Two friends are meeting me at the gym/going to Zumba with me on different days. This helps motivate me to go and meet them instead of skipping a workout! I also walked around my section & the local parks a few times in the past few weeks. It is nice to be outside, but I hate the humidity and high heat. I made the mistake of jogging 1.5 miles around my house when it was 92 degrees last week. I felt pretty sick afterwards! I didn’t feel like going to the gym, so I figured I would still get some exercise in. Next time I will do some exercising inside or force myself to drive to the gym!

My one friend is starting a couch to 5k program. This makes me want to sign up for another 5k event! It has been a long time since I’ve done one! They are usually for some pretty good causes. My cousin asks me all the time to run a 10mile and half marathon. I hate turning him down, but there is no way I would be able to handle that!! I usually use the elliptical at the gym because it is easier on my knees. Since my friend wants to do this 5k program, I will use the treadmill when with her. I read my old blogs recently and 4 years ago I wanted a running buddy. Now I have one!

My "Summer" Goals:
-Continue going to the gym
-Continue tracking my food
-Cook with new recipes using more veggies!
-Plan a few local trips
-Complete more house projects
-Keep focus on eating healthier & exercising
-Do more with my Husband (date nights, play games, watch movies, talk)

I don’t know when I will post again, so I hope everyone has a great summer. Good luck with all of the hard work you are doing to reach your goals! Even if you don’t reach them within the time frame you created, don’t worry! Goals can be changed just as the way to reach those goals can also be adjusted. Each step is important in being a healthier You.
