The Camino Pilgrimage

Saturday, July 15, 2017

I have wanted to walk the Camino, a 500+ mile pilgrimage that begins in St. Jean Pied de Port, France, and continues along Northern Spain. It takes healthy people about 35 days to do it, it would take me months, many months. But the DESIRE is there. I have decided I would devote the next three years to getting ready to go. I have never really had an adventure in my life, and I have many health complications to manage as well, so it will take me a lot longer to prepare than the average person. As motivation I bought a wonderful guide book called "Camino de Santiago Village to Village Guide". It outlines each days walk with maps and photographs and all kinds of interesting tidbits. I lucked out when I chose it, because I really didn't know what I was looking for. I look up each of the places mentioned on the map, and Google photographs of that area, and I mark the map with how far I have walked each day. I am learning so much and it keeps the goal very real. On high pain days I hardly nudge the map with my marking pen, but on other days I happily fill in an actual LINE! :) I figure even if it takes me a year, I will start over and it will take me less time. And then I'll do it again. I am GOING TO GO. I read in my hiking guide that the pilgrims walking the Camino are referred to as "God walkers." I love that, and feel very literally like that is what is happening to me! God is taking me out for a walk! :)

I love the fact that you have a dream, an adventure that you can prepare for and you are doing it. I find this inspiring. You go girl. I might have mentioned that a woman in our church did that walk sometime during the last 6 months. It had been a goal of hers for some time. Prior to that, I had never heard of the Camino de Santiago. Keep dreaming and continue with your preparation. Blessings.
