Very Little Storm Damage!

I'm glad we survived hurricane Irma! Our power was only off for 18 hours but the internet, land line and television were off for 8 days. They came on in the late afternoon on Monday. I was busy doing tasks from my to do list since the television and Internet were down. It turned out to be a blessing since I got so much done! The television and internet are nice but I'd really be lost without air conditioning. We were blessed to have lost the air conditioning for only 18 hours. We are very well insulated so the temperature inside only hit 82 degrees. Once the power came back on, it easily cooled off to our usual 78-79 degrees.
We lost no food because we added extra ice to our freezers. We had plenty of water and other supplies. As far as any damage is concerned, we have one shingle with an edge sticking up. That is all of the damage we can see. Thank goodness we put in palm trees and not oak trees when we built our house! Most of our neighbors have branches down with the exception of those of us who chose not to have oak trees.
Our town and neighborhood streets are a mess. We have tree companies from as far away as Ohio working to clear away the debris. Many wooden fences were blown down as well as the PVC fences. The difference is that the PVC fences can snap back into place, if they aren't split. The wood fences just splinter and break. People have added piles of wood fencing to their piles of broken tree limbs and split trees. The tree companies have had to hire hauling companies to move trees off the roads. Then the tree companies spend hours if not days, cutting up the wood so it can be hauled away. It will take months to recover.
